 Potami is the river mouth of Platanistos, lies 23 km far away from Karystos. It has 83 inhabitants. It is worthwhile to visit the small wetland at the mouth of the stream. Access is possible by car too; you follow the dirt road that leads from the main road to the biggest beach of Cape Caphereus – also known as Cavo d’Oro – Potami beach. Before flowing into the sea, the stream forms lakes which, together with the age-long planes, create magical scenery and provide a cosy wetland habitat for migratory birds.  The beach which has clear blue water ideal for snorkelling and a little taverna to help while away the day - is steep, potholed and rutted.
